John Van Doren MD specializes in addiction medicine and is currently on staff at the Hazelden Betty Ford Center in RanchoMirage, California. Following graduation from what is now Rutgers Medical School in New Jersey and completing a general surgery mini-residency at Harbor UCLA Medical Center and an anesthesiology residency at the same facility, the American Board of MedicalSpecialties certified Dr. Van Doren as a diplomat in anesthesiology in 1992.

 

After a 12-year career in anesthesiologypractice, Dr. Van Doren spent 10 yearscounseling and facilitating psychoeducationalgroups to patients with substance use disorders. From 2019-2020, Dr. Van Dorencompleted an addiction medicine fellowship atUniversidad Central de Caribe in Puerto Rico where the emphasis in training was on developing metacognitive tools to facilitate increased neuroplasticity and recovery from substance use and other mental health disorders. 

 

Dr. Van Doren combines psychedelic medications with metacognitive therapy to free the mind and assist with the development ofwellness to maximize recovery from depression, anxiety, substance use andchronic pain. Dr Van Doren has experience with administering intravenous ketamine and is available to employ intravenous ketamine therapy for treatment of alcohol use disorder, treatment resistant depression, and chronic pain conditions.
