Trained at the University of California, Irvine. Dr Charles has 40 years of experience in the treatment of severe psychological trauma (PTSD), suicidal behaviors and addiction medicine. He served as the Medical Director of the Emergency Psychiatric Services for the County of Orange.

Dr. Charles has extensive knowledge and experience in the use of treatment for PTSD including the use of sodium amytal (narcoanalysis/narcosynthesis) and with oral, injectable and infusions of ketamine. He has research interest in both the therapeutic effects of psychedelics for psychiatric disorders and the management of the acute side effects of MDMA, LSD, psilocybin, and other drugs as they present as psychiatric emergencies.
